Lengthening

Lengthening and dancing beyond the walls means to send energy from every part of our bodies, and to transmit the movements to others during a performance. When we did the exercise in Modern class about projecting the energy outside of the walls of the studio I thought about my future, my goals, the paths, the passion for what I do, that really helped to see beyond while dancing. Longer movements look more complete because it redefines character and confidence; it also makes the choreography intensive, correct, very structural leaving the audience wanting more.
The other exercise we did on the floor in which we pulled our partner to reach across from their bodies let me to find different parts of our bodies that can be a lot more worked during a choreography. I found it was more difficult to do it ourselves without the help, but after doing it with the partner and repeating the exercise again it led us actually correct ourselves while working through the movements. Something I can do to work on to improve this skill is to never give up and to always try over and over again. I would also work on and improve the understanding of the separation from the torso and the lower body for future choreographic moves to make them much easier, fluid and grounded on the floor.
